The aim of the project is the understanding of the batwings logics and their application to architectural systems. A first exploration of the batwing’s membrane and its several properties on each region, revealed the importance of the fibers in which its stiffness, elasticity modulus and orientation; define relevant characteristics for the wing shape and its adaptations according to the membrane performance.
Through several models and computational tests, we were able to control a logic system, where fibers were placed on membranes under different frame conditions, in order to establish some variables that would be integrated in the architectural system.
The outcome of the architectural system is the manipulation of the different variables in the fibers of a membrane, this has resulted in several samples on how to control the several properties.
